Dmitry Samarov

I stumbled onto Dmitry Samarov on Flickr and it was love at first sight. A Russian immigrant, Samarov paints pictures of interiors, still lifes, city landscapes, friends in Chicago where he calls home. It’s his renderings of rooms and furniture and junk that I like most. They are energetic and yet perfectly still. Samarov’s day job is driving a taxi and he documents that life in words and sketches on his blog, Hack. His other website is art focused and stuffed with engaging paintings and interesting information. Below are a handful of Samarov’s interiors paintings. I hope that you like them too.

There is a still quality to Samarov’s work. It’s sort of Ashcan school, but bolder.

Oh, I love these. And speaking of Russian immigrants (that'd be me) I love the back story as well! I'm a sucker for a good still, especially one that depicts the everyday stuff of life. These are beautiful and engaging and tell so many stories. Great find, Susie!

The use of light in these is wonderful. And even though they're
interior "still-lifes," they feel full of motion.
