Art inspired colorway | Sarah Hinckley
Monday, November 16, 2009
I was roaming around the Emily Amy Gallery website when I happened upon the beautiful work of Brooklyn-based Sarah Hinckley. The Cape Cod of Hinckley’s childhood — with its strata of earth, water, sky — informs the rich bands of color in her paintings. She is a masterful colorist. Select almost any painting from her Color Logic series and you’ve got a sophisticated interiors palette. I was most attracted to her gray, taupe, green, dull brown, and peachy rust combination. Here are a few interiors to see how the combination plays out.

Isn’t Hinkley’s work mesmerizing? Both simple and complex, so much to see.

I just popped over to one of my favorite blogs, Delight by Design. Blair has a keen eye for color and a mad talent for pairing fashions with interiors. I swear, she does a better job of it than Domino used to! Today, her post is on color referenced from candy and baked goods. Look at this photo! It seems to mesh well with the greens, grays, and terra cotta inspired by Sarah Hinckley’s work.
Be sure to visit Delight by Design.

Wonderful! The artwork is phenomenal and I'm blown away with that last trio of images. Especially the rich burnt orange wallpaper. It's like a William Morris, maybe, but in an unusual colorway.
Love that last image too, I'm a huge fan of green, so I'm totally smitten with all those green accessories.
That is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about my blog--thank you so much! i have been feeling a little blogger burnout and that was just the jolt I needed! Thank you. xx blair
You know, I wasn't really sure I liked the color palette until you got down to the living rooms... LOVE them!
Thank you so much for your mention of Sarah Hinckley's work! She is one of my favorites at the gallery. I will be sure to forward the post to her as well. I am sure she will be so appreciative of your post! Thanks again.
