Mark Making
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
Have you seen Joshua Greene’s new blog, Shagreene? I love its newsy posts and interviews. And that’s where I found this living room { above } with artist Otto Zitko’s spectacular ceiling.
ABOVE: Otto Zitko’s Untitled, 2002, oilstick on aluminum panel
The Zitko ceiling reminded me of Brad Ford’s stunning interior with the beautifully gestural line drawing scrawled over the fireplace.
Which brought to mind If The Lampshade Fits’ post on Jeffrey Bilhuber’s fantastic gold leaf blobby line dancing across handpainted wallpaper.

A less intimidating scribble
If the photos above made you think Don’t Try This At Home, here are safer ways to introduce mark-making into your world.
Scribbly fabrics: TOP, Clarence House Vortice; CENTER, Knotty Knotty by Donghia; BOTTOM, fabric marker on linen by Spiritcloth blog
Hudson Chalkboard paint offers great colors and terrific ideas.

How about a white board or orange board? Idea Paint is expensive but really, really cool.

Just saw this blobby mark on the floor of an interior by Katie Lydon. Nicely punctuates the dining area.

THAT FIRST PHOTO IS AMAZING!!!!
HUNNEE! We are so on the same wavelength today. I was lying in bed this morning thinking about doing some sort of squiggle treatment in the master bedroom. Saw some Cy Twombly pieces yesterday and was inspired.
And thanks for the blog love, Babe!
This makes me want to pull out one of the many white linen
tablecloths I have and go at it!
i don't think i ever drew on walls. crayons over b/w want ads makes good wrapping paper.
I'm kinda afraid to admit how veeeery much I like this. My kids are at school and not reading over my shoulder, so perhaps it's safe to say it. Love! Wow- dynamic, dramatic, cool, unique, daring...spectacular! Although when my now 8 year old middle child did this years ago on the kitchen floor (think Harold and the Purple Crayon, marker in our case) my reaction was less than pleased. Perhaps I should have left his original art installation intact...go figure, he was ahead of the trend. ;0)
OH. MY. GOD.
Going to draw all over my ceilings now!!!
