Fun With Fashion Colors, Part 1
Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Okay, it's a color-theme week here at eye spy. To coincide with New York Fashion Week, Pantone released its spring 2009 runway palette. { Read the full Pantone apparel color forecast here. } Ten colors make up Pantone’s interpretation of last week’s fashion show. These hues are clearer and brighter than the “skintones” we chatted about on Monday. Because they are as livable as they are wearable, I think we’ll see these fashion colors quickly incorporated in home decor product lines. Just for kicks, I’ve taken each Pantone forecast color, shown an original runway reference, and then grouped some interiors and products in that coloration. I'll upload five today, five more tomorrow.

But sit tight! I think Pantone’s forecast had a couple of huge omissions. Go to Vogue and scan the runway shows. You’ll be knocked out by a dazzling persimmonish-red used by Michael Kors and others. This red is more brilliant, more vibrant than the the sweet springy colors above. Strong, confident. And, then there’s black. Yes, it’s a pervasive fashion hue, but this time around it’s large and in-charge because it seems to be the singular dark color. This black is grounded, solid, certain.
My crystal ball says Pantone's Fuchsia Red, Lavender, and Super Lemon will be huge in interior design. The red and black too { but, not used together!} . Take a peek at these groupings and pass along your predictions.

I just blogged about colors yesterday. I love yours!
I jumped over to http://www.craftandco.blogspot.com/ and checked out your colors. I really like the saturation and depth of your hues. Thanks for writing! - susieq
Susie these groupings are beautiful. The room with red inset on wall (Chapman Radcliff store) is an image i've saved for three years or more :)
Thank you! I love that room also. So many of my images are ages old -- and often I cannot even figure out where they came from!
