Abelardo Morrell
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 Abelardo Morell’s work is a feast for the eyes. HIs photographs are about layers, perception, reality, beauty, decoration. Like a painting not yet completed, I love how the artist has captured that work-in-progress vibe with the leaning ladder and footstool and strewn tools. In his images, Morrell has projected an exterior image of architecture or landscape against an interior wall. Projected doors are layered over actual doors; a projected ornate Palladian window is paired with an actual baroque mirror. What is foreground; what is background? Fascinating. Morrell's intricate photographs are beautiful for their composition, surface interest, and color. Exquisite.
Morrell’s photographs will be at the Bonni Benrubi Gallery, New York, through December 6.
