Let's Go Window Shopping!

Whew, it’s Friday!  And it’s been a long week.  I need a little retail therapy — let’s go window shopping.  Here are photos from a few shops that have beautiful product offerings.  I hope they delight your eyes as they do mine. Next week, we'll look at one of my favorite Atlanta shops and hear a trend report from its owner. And be sure to email me if you know of a great shop or online retailer you'd like to share with eye spy readers.

Dan Marty Design

West Hollywood, CA

On the DMD website, Dan Marty style is described as “Euopean Colonial meets California laid back ease.” The shop offers antiques, vintage textiles, and stunning wares in a handsome, elegant setting. A whirl on their website is like a blink-of-the-eye trip to Europe. Many of their fabulous finds were handpicked from the Paris Flea Market and other jaunts through France. If I were to pick one item for myself, it would be the Union Jack chair. Fabulous!

BDDW Handmade American Furniture

Brooklyn, NY

Painter and sculptor Tyler Hays is the creative force behind BDDW, the Williamsberg Brooklyn studio and showroom. Each piece of furniture is created one-at-a-time, by hand, and is destined to be a heirloom. BDDW masterfully crafts grand modern pieces. Tables, seating, and storage pieces are bold for their shape and use of materials, yet possess a beautifully understated elegance. The shop also offers original art, rugs, and decorative items. My one pick from BDDW would be a gift for my husband who adores fine woodworking. I’d give him one a BDDW handsome, chunky table with that “bow-tie” joinery suturing its ripped center.

Brown

Houston, TX

Former mathematician Jill Brown is well known in Houston for her creative offering of European treasures and her talent and skill for lighting.  Her shop is filled with antiques and spectacular lamps. Brown’s travels inform her trend-setting collections: French and Dutch weathered and worn antiques, Belgian vintage industrial objects (many categories by metal type), mid-century European school charts, and fabulous quirky objects from hither and yon. One item for myself?  Hmmm, probably an oversize lantern in a matte bronze or chalky zinc finish.
